The Hongkong Prize for Young Scientists

The hongkong prize is one of the most prestigious writing competitions in Asia, attracting thousands of entrants each year. It offers monetary prizes and the opportunity to participate in an awards ceremony, which can help authors advance their careers and increase media coverage. However, it is important to carefully read the rules and regulations before submitting a manuscript for consideration. Doing so can prevent authors from making costly mistakes that could disqualify them from the contest.

The prize, which is sponsored by HKATI and the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, honours outstanding scientific researchers/ teams in the following fields: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Life and Health; New Materials and New Energy; Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech. Renowned scholars and experts from Hong Kong and abroad are invited to select winners each year, recognising their pioneering efforts in the fields and their success in transforming research results for the benefit of society.

Winners of the hongkong prize will receive a grant of up to HK$2 million and access to Hong Kong’s premier science facilities for six months. The winners also will have the opportunity to collaborate with international scientists, allowing them to further explore and develop their scientific ideas in the research environment of a city that has produced many Nobel laureates.

Applicants will be judged on the overall quality of their submission, including its relevance to the theme, systematic use of collected materials, objectivity in analysis, and citation of bibliography and footnotes. The judging panel will consist of experts in the field and representatives from the government and non-governmental organizations. The finalists will be shortlisted by 31 January 2020, and the final winner will be announced in May 2021.

This year, the hongkong prize received more than 500 entries from students from schools across the SAR and mainland China. The winning submissions will be featured in an exhibition at the HK Museum of History, which will open to the public from September to October.

The hongkong prize is designed to encourage young people to develop their creativity, enhance the awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and promote community participation. The prize is open to anyone aged 18-30 who lives in Hong Kong or was born in Hong Kong, or has a strong connection with the SAR.
