The Hong Kong Prize and Sovereign Asian Art Prize Winners Announced

The hk prize is an annual award to recognise scientific and technological innovation achievements of Hong Kong. The winner will receive HKD 2,000,000, a trophy and a certificate. The awards review committee is made up of experts from the HKSAR government, central government agencies and sponsoring enterprises. They will make independent judgments and objective evaluations on candidates’ scientific and technological innovation achievements, their transformation and the social or economic value created.

The winners of this year’s hk prize were announced at a ceremony on May 17. Sameen Agha, an artist from Pakistan, won the grand prize for her sculpture A Home is a Terrible Place to Love. Meanwhile, Hong Kong-based Michelle Fung won the women’s prize for her mixed media work Red Bean Stalk. Demet, another Hong Kong-based artist, won the public vote for his PPE, Paint Palette Emulation. The finalists were also selected for the prestigious Sovereign Asian Art Prize, with Hong Kong having nine artists on the shortlist this year.

More than two million people took to the streets across the world in support of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement last summer, and now US lawmakers have nominated them for a Nobel Peace Prize. In a letter to the Norwegian Nobel committee, nine members of Congress from both parties called on the committee to “honour those courageous people who risked their lives to stand up for human rights and freedom.”

Hong Kong’s racehorses will be getting an extra boost next season as the club increases its prize money for all grades. The hk prize for the Group 1 and Class 1 races will increase by nearly 90%, while every grade from Class 4 to Griffin will see an uplift. The club says it’s the biggest increase in prize money since it launched the hk prize in 2012.

Founded in 2012, this competition is designed to honour those with exceptional dedication and contributions in promoting the local economy through sustainable development. The hk prize winners are recognised for their genuine spirit of charity, civic awareness and goodwill, as well as their selfless acts, tenacious entrepreneurship, and the power of innovation for good.
